St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, LCMS of Corcoran/Maple Grove celebrates 150 years.

April 18, 2014 marks the sesquicentennial - or 150th anniversary of the founding of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. To celebrate this milestone, many events have been planned, including the grand celebrations on October 5th and 6th of this year. On Saturday October 5th, the church will host a musical event and social hour, with details to be announced on a later date. On Sunday October 6th, the church will hold celebratory Divine Worship services at 8:00 and 10:30 in the morning, and hosting Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS)  as guest pastor, and a banquet to follow the late service.

St. John’s is actively searching for former members in order to extend invitations to these events. If you have been a member, or know of anyone who was, please contact the church office or Anniversary Committee.

More information about these events, and much more, please visit the website at www.stjlutheran.org

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded by 13 German families in 1864 after a mission visit by Reverend Ferdinand Sievers a few years earlier in 1856. It is the second oldest Missouri Synod congregation in Minnesota. The church has remained faithful to the original articles set forth in that original founding document, and ministered to residents of the northwest suburbs since that first gathering with Rev. Sievers.

Many descendants of those founding families still attend the church and are active members, along with a multitude of new members who have joined in recent years following the growth of the northwest suburbs during the last two decades. St. John’s also maintains a parochial school that has served the community since it’s first days. The combination of the long-standing traditions and newer diversity keeps the congregation vibrant and dynamic, yet true to it’s conservative roots in the LCMS.

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, LCMS
We are a Bible-based, Christian congregation affiliated with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Our congregation, located on the border of Maple Grove and Corcoran, has been serving God's people in this area with Word and Sacrament since 1864. We are committed to preaching the Gospel purely according to the Lutheran Confessions and properly administering our Lord's Sacraments according to His institution.
