In the Collect for the Week we prayed that God would grant us to fix our hearts where true joys are to be found.  Joy and happiness are not the same thing.  Christian joy is rooted in the resurrection of Christ.  During this joyful Eastertide the joy given us by God has been given voice in the hymnody of the season.  Last Sunday we sang "At the Lamb's High Feast" as the Hymn of the Day (neither words nor music by a Lutheran), while the first distribution hymn "Awake My Heart With Gladness" has both words (Paul Gerhardt) and music (Johann Cruger) authored by Lutherans who are considered foremost among authors and composers in the history of the Lutheran hymnody.
