Christmas Services and Events
Visitors are always welcome to attend! All our services are open to the public. Here at St. John's we offer a very traditional Advent & Christmas. On the Sundays and Wednesdays leading up to Christmas we observe the historic Christian season of Advent, a time of watching and waiting, filled with repentance and faithful preparation for the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Since, of course, the children can hardly wait for the Christmas holiday, we do hold a Sunday School Christmas Program during the 10:30 AM service on Sunday, December 14. Our Lutheran dayschool also holds an annual Christmas Concert to praise the Savior's birth (Thursday, December 18, performances at 1:30 PM and 6:00 PM).
The Christmas season then officially begins with our Christmas Eve "Lessons & Carols" services at 3:00 & 5:00 PM. The Christmas Gospel is proclaimed through beautiful Scripture readings and the congregation responds with songs of praise using the most well-known and well-loved Christmas hymns and carols. That evening we also observe the "Midnight Mass" of Christmas. We gather at 11:00 PM to hear of how our Savior Jesus was born mid-way through the night as announced by the angel choir to the shepherds of Bethlehem.
The next morning, Christmas Day, is one of the grandest services of the year. There is perhaps no better and more authentic way to "keep Christ in Christmas" than by coming to the Lord's House, to hear His Word, and to sing His praises on this day when we celebrate His birth.
At that point the Christmas season has just begun. The "Twelve Days of Christmas" continue with our normal Sunday services and draw to a close on the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6), hearing how Magi from the East came to worship the Christ-child.
