Holy Week Services at St. John’s
Sunday, April 2 8:00 & 10:30 a.m. – Palm Procession & Passion Sunday
Divine Services begin with the children processing with palm branches and song. Then we have a special responsive reading of the Passion of our Lord as recorded in St. Matthew’s Gospel
Monday, April 3 – Wednesday, April 5 7:00 p.m. – Evening devotional services
Brief services of the Word focusing on the Passion of our Lord Jesus from Mark, Luke, & John
Thursday, April 6 7:00 p.m. – Divine Service with Holy Communion
We celebrate the Sacrament and have the traditional stripping of the altar, emptying the chancel of all the decorations just as Jesus was stripped and beaten on His way to the cross.
Friday, April 7 12:30 p.m. – The Chief Service of the Word
This service reads through the Passion and Suffering of our Lord Jesus along with hymns and prayer
7:00 p.m. – Tenebrae Vespers
The Tenebrae service is an ancient service of prayer, using Psalms about the Messiah and the Passion reading while candles are extinguished, reminding us how the very Light of the World was put to death.
Saturday, April 8 7:00 p.m. – The Easter Vigil
This is to be a night of watching. We listen to a long history of salvation, redress the altar for Easter, and offer the Sacrament of the Altar
Sunday, April 9 6:00 a.m. – Easter Sunrise Divine Service
This celebration of the Resurrection concludes the Vigil from the night before. Hasten to the Church as the women went early to the tomb to discover that the Lord is risen! He is risen, indeed!
8:00 a.m. – Easter Day Divine Service
10:30 a.m. – Easter Day Divine Service
The resurrection of Christ is the miracle that changed the history of the world. It’s why we worship together every Sunday as a little Easter, so it goes without saying that Easter Sunday itself is the Chief Feast of the Church Year. See you there!
